Making Waves Education Program is a tutoring and teaching program designed to address the academic, emotional, social, and developmental needs of our students.
Middle School Program (5th-8th Grade)
Skilled tutors, led by a credentialed teacher, lead small-groups in reading, writing, vocabulary development, and study skills for 8-12 hours per week. Compulsory tutoring sessions are held twice weekly and on Saturdays. Students who require additional help are also able to take advantage of academic support throughout the week with access to fully-equipped computer labs and resource libraries.
High School Program (9th-12th Grade)
The High School Program builds on the successful habits developed in the Middle School Program. Regular meetings with teachers, counselors and tutors give students the academic support they need to reach their Individual Success Plan goals. Our literacy programs: Reading and Writing Empowerment and Math Empowerment help students to refine their skills and prepare them to perform at the college level. The California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) preparation, SAT and ACT preparation, and on-site college and career counseling are just some of the services that students utilize to achieve their goals.
College Program
More than 90% of our students will be the first in their families to earn a college degree. The College Program supports our students as they make this challenging and exciting transition into adulthood. Our high school students have access to annual Northern and Southern California college tours, financial aid and scholarship workshops. All of our college students have access to Making Waves Education Program tutoring and support services.
